Through a series of characteristically "quiet maneuvers," the Champaign Economic Partnership (CEP) of Urbana, Ohio has sold a piece of land near Cedar Bog to a company called Urbana0624C, LLC that is proposing to build a data center adjacent to US 68, about 2 miles north of the Bog.
Data centers are all the rage these days, of course - Mainly because they provide the infrastructure for the race toward Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption and other high-capacity computing "needs."
However, it is not generally understood that data centers consume massive amounts of electricity and potable water.
Water is required for cooling. Lots and lots of it.

See the Cedar Bog Nature Preserve’s website for a detailed map of the proposed data center location, along with many other details.
Water consumption at data center scale is obviously a serious threat to Cedar Bog, so concerned people - who had absolutely no vote in this to date - are currently speaking up.
CALL TO ACTION:
There is a planning commission meeting this evening(!) - Monday, February 23rd at 6:00 pm at 205 E. Main St. Urbana, OH 43078.
Please attend and let your voice be heard!
You don’t have to be a resident of Champaign County to voice your concerns.
